JobCentre Plus pilot launch
JCP pilot launch
TimeBank is working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus on a pilot project to deliver the Time Together refugee mentoring scheme to refugees accessing Jobcentre Plus services across London. Mentoring is one of the most effective ways to overcome barriers to employment and increase an individual’s employability.
Mentors spend 2.5 hours every 2 weeks with their mentee helping them to identify and work towards their employment goals. Using their knowledge and experience mentors support mentees to:
- Gain an increased awareness of their skills and how to apply them
- Better understand the application and interview process
- Identify appropriate job opportunities
- Learn about UK work culture
- Develop language skills
- Build confidence
Mentoring relationships last 6 months and both mentors and mentees receive full training and support throughout. Mentoring provides both mentee and mentor with the opportunity to learn new things and further their own personal development through their interactions with each other.
Mentors do not have to be experts in employment or immigration issues however they will need to have general everyday knowledge about jobs and employment issues in London.
