Time Together In Refugee Week June 14-20

A unique scheme to provide mentoring and support to refugees in the UK will seek to reinforce its role during this year's Refugee Week, which runs from June 14 to 20.

Launched two years ago and so far operating as a pilot scheme in London, Birmingham and Glasgow, Time Together asks people to devote five hours a month to help individuals - many of whom have fled war, poverty or persecution - as they try to start new lives in Britain.

Run by volunteering charity TimeBank, Time Together aims to challenge some of the negative perceptions of refugees; to recognise the contribution - economically and socially - they can make to the UK, and to unlock a wealth of skills and experience that is currently being wasted.

The TimeBank press office can supply:

case studies featuring mentors and mentees
broadcast-quality film footage of the Time Together project
experts for interviews/comment
key facts on refugees and their contribution to life in the UK
